Mechanism of Action
PT-141 works by:
- Binding to melanocortin receptors (MC3R and MC4R) in the brain
- Stimulating sexual arousal centers in the hypothalamus, unlike PDE5 inhibitors which affect blood vessels
- Promoting neurogenic arousal, impacting desire and intimacy through the central nervous system
Potential Side Effects / Considerations
- Nausea (most common side effect, dose-dependent)
- Flushing, headache, or temporary increase in blood pressure
- Possible darkening of moles or pigmentation changes (in rare cases)
- Use with caution in individuals with cardiovascular risk
- Should not be combined with other melanocortin agonists without clinical guidance
